Under the COVID-19 pandemic, there are significant changes in the mode of learning and living of schoolchildren. The eating habits of some schoolchildren became irregular and imbalanced due to the increased time spent at home and reduced chances to conduct physical or outdoor activities, leading to overweight and obesity. According to the information from the Student Health Service of the Department of Health, the overweight and obesity rate of children and adolescents has increased under the pandemic.
In view of this, the "EatSmart@school.hk" Campaign launches the "EatSmart under the New Normal" Scheme (Scheme) in this school year. Through providing more resources to schools, schoolchildren and their carers, the Scheme helps building up an environment conducive to healthy eating for schoolchildren as well as enables schoolchildren to maintain good eating habits regardless of whether they are at home or at school and master healthy eating behaviour under the new normal.
